Native Wildflower Seed
Seed is the most affordable way to rewild your yard. Most species can broadcast any time of year, but for some, fall is the ideal season for planting wildflowers from seed! We encourage you to research individual species to meet your needs.
How to Start Wildflowers from Seed
Choose a location: sunny and well-draining
Remove existing vegetation by weeding or mowing as low as possible. Seeds must make contact with the soil surface.
Loosen the soil surface with a hard rake and water the seedbed.
Hand-broadcast seed or use a seed spreader for larger areas. You can mix the seed with 4 parts sand or soil to 1 part seed for even distribution. Rake area again to ensure seeds make contact with soil.
Water gently but thoroughly when seedbed looks dry. Do not allow soil to crack or remain excessively wet.
To promote reseeding, wait until most flowers have dropped their seed (at least 6-8 weeks after the full bloom period) before mowing. Mow to a height of 4-6 inches annually.
